Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:

On November 17th the CSU Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a 2010-11 budget that seeks an additional $884 million in state General Fund support to help the university recover and reinvest.

I believe this request is essential in order to help save California’s public higher education and sustain California’s economic recovery. The CSU faced a reduction of roughly $600 million last year which is the largest reduction in its history. While the university has taken proactive steps to mitigate these cuts, the sheer magnitude of these cuts is already forcing the university to turn away as many as 40,000 students in the next two years Long term reductions would cause lasting harm to student access, to the institution and to California’s  capacity to educate the state’s future workforce.

Given the significant impact the CSU has currently and will have on the future of California’s workforce and economy, it is critical that as you look ahead to the 2010-11 state budget that these funds are restored. California’s future depends on the CSU, and I look forward to hearing your response in this matter.
